Chookas are stylish, rugged and comfortable sheepskin boots that are designed to appeal to women of all ages. In short, "they look great at the bottom of a pair of legs”, says Moehring. He said the boots come in many color schemes, including faded pink, lavender, blue, ruby red, burnt orange, surf blue and black among others. Upper colors connect with sole colors to create in Moehring ’s words "very fashion forward" styling. Women ’s sizes range from 5 to 11, men's 6-13, and kid ’s sizes from 8 to 2 and the boots come in short and tall styles.

The Chooka Boots Story

Founded in 1891, Washington Shoe Company built its reputation by making rugged, yet comfortable Western Chief work boots for the thousands of men seeking their fortune in the harsh conditions of the Alaska Gold Rush.

We began making slippers in the 1940's in response to our work boot customers who were looking for comfortable shoes to wear at home, before and after work. In time, we found the qualities of sheepskin made our slippers even softer, warmer, and more comfortable.

Thirty years later, sore-footed Australian surfers began using sheepskin pieces to wrap their feet after a long day of catching waves. They had discovered the outstanding qualities of comfortable sheepskin, and it was only a matter of time before someone sewed the pieces together to make a boot. The idea eventually spread to surfers in California, where people quickly fell in love with these sheepskin "surfer boots".

Several years ago we started making a line of sheepskin boots and slippers. Our boots became known as Chookas with the people using them after water sports and winter sport. We are delighted that recently our sheepskin boots have become fashionable. To respond to this crazy trend our Chookas are evolving into their own stand alone brand.
