Old Friend Footwear got its start in 1981, when Jim Klavano founded its parent company, Australia Unlimited, Inc. After a time spent in Australia following college, Jim imported his first sheepskin product into America. He brought in thermostatic sheepskins that were used by the Children’s Hospital in Seattle to prevent heat loss in premature babies - A fitting start for the orthopedic shoemaker.
A personal friendship with a clog retailer in Seattle led Jim to design and manufacture his first sheepskin slippers. Throughout the growth of his brand, Jim has remained intimately connected to the design of Old Friend Footwear. His commitment to methodically producing ergonomic, functional footwear is unmatched in the sheepskin market.
